Greenland East Coast

In late July, the snow and ice on Greenland’s east coast are retreating in the face of the season’s summer temperatures. In the deeply carved fjords and inlets, runoff filled with fine glacial sediment turns the waters bright blue. bare rock appears brown and rust-colored. At image lower right, a river of finely crushed ice makes white swirls in the near-shore waters. Just south of center along hte right edge, contrails are visible.
