On January 25, 2002 MODIS captured this image of the Middle East, where snow had accumulated in the mountainous portion of the region. The countries visible in this image, clockwise from upper-left, are Turkey, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Syria. Several bodies of water are also visible: The Caspian Sea (upper-right), The Black Sea (upper-left), and the Persian Gulf (bottom-right), in which there is a discharge of sediment indicated by the green-blue swirls.
