SeaWiFS: White Island Eruption Plume

This SeaWiFS image shows a long eruption plume coming from the volcano on White Island in the Bay of Plenty, New Zealand on June 14, 2000. Considerable turbidity is also evident along the eastern coasts of North Island and South Island. The Southern Alps have a heavy covering of snow as might be expected near the beginning of the southern-hemisphere winter.
